How do we find the best settings for you? The correct setting is important for optimal results. Too little energy, and the result won’t be as good. Too much increases the chance of clustering and burning. The settings for two of our lasers, the Vectus hair removal and the Icon IPL, can be influenced by using the Skintel machine.
The Skintel is held against the skin and measures how much natural pigment is present. Pigment gathers and hold the heat. Less pigment means you can use more energy in the treatment. More pigment means the settings are more restricted.
A lot of times, the settings will change on subsequent treatments. Partly this is to get more results if they have plateau’d, but also the energy can be increased once the technician knows that the last setting did not cause blisters. This is why accurate reporting of results and any blistering is reported. Also this is why sun exposure and darkening of the skin, for example in summer, needs to be reassessed. The Skintel helps us adjust in such situations.
